Terrible Flood at end of C. Ayala St. Front of Solomon Hall

Map

I am writing this blog to serve as a guide for renting individuals, group of people, or families in the area of C. Ayala street near the creek. I am hoping that no other victim of any lies will come after our experience.

I am presently renting in a house at C. Ayala St. just almost in front of the Solomon Hall of the St. Benilde school. This house owned by an old Land Lady living adjacent to us. We moved in this house for the main reason of avoiding menacing flood that we experienced from Ondoy in our house in Don Antonio. Secondly, we find it much economical and stress free to live in nearby house to our workplace and to my daughter’s school.

These are the things that we made clear from our hot-blooded Land Lady who’s means of communication is dominating at least 90% of your conversation and will tell you to let her finish before you try to say what you want to say. Yet when you try to talk, she wouldn’t even want you to finish. She made assurance that there is no problem when it comes to flood in that area and that any floods except the ones made by Ondoy are all manageable.

This is until when the start of the rainy season begins the other day. I wasn’t able to come home because all access to our street was heavily flooded. Considering that the rain was considered a normal rain that happens every rainy season especially during typhoon. So I tried to wait for the rain and flood to settle. The rain started to fade at about 12 midnight so i went through the manageable floods that already settled along L. Guinto and Singalong to reach St. Scholastica school. However, the both ends of Arellano St. at Estrada and P.Ocampo were heavily flooded that cars are having a hard time passing through.

So I waited inside my car until 3am hoping everything had settled. I saw that there’s almost no more cars passing by. The Estrada corner Arellano St. was still heavily flooded so I went to the other side via P.Ocampo and it was a relief to see that that side was already passable. So I drove through to Arellano to get to C. Ayala St. just in front of the Bulalo King, and to my surprise, our area was still flooded heavily that no cars can be seen parked along our street.

So I waited for more time hoping that the flood at Estrada cor Arellano and and C. Ayala would settle soon. I woke up from a nap inside my car at 6am and tried to see again, my heart was like jumping in joy to see that all of Arellano St. had settled and almost drying up. I told my self, that there is no way that C. Ayala will not be passable because the old Lady told us that that area has the best drainage system and a high ground and that the creek behind it never reaches the road during ordinary typhoons. Therefore, I told my self that finally I can be able to go home, and at least take a bath, change clothes, and go to work again even with less sleep.

But to my surprise, when I reached C.Ayala St. cor Arellano St., it was virtually disappointing to see that despite that the floods on rest of the street surrounding our area had settled and almost drying up, our area didn’t seem to have changed its level since the last 3 hours. Because of this, I was left with no other choice but to just go back to work, very dirty, with no sleep.

Then I texted my wife and told her that maybe she can just stay in the house and excuse herself from work this time because of the flood. But wife later replied that she walked through the flood because she had an important thing to do at work and it is very awkward to state the reason of flood to be unable to go to work when almost all areas are already passable. That is just crazy to think that all the assurances made by the old lady was just the total opposite. But the worse thing about this is that the flood in our area was in fact coming from the very dirty creek where all the garbage and all other dirty substance such as the rats and rat’s piss that gives people Leptospirosis that causes death to some people. The map here shows the area and the red colors and the dots indicates flood and its magnitude.

I brought the case to the attention of the Land Lady and as expected, she knew nothing but to deny everything she promised and worse she’s telling a different story that during those time while I was waiting the entire night inside my car, she said everything I saw never happened. She said that our street settled as fast as the rest of the streets settled from flood. I thought this is really outrageous and I expressed intention to cancel the contract and move to another house. But the greedy Land Lady threatened me that she will not return my two months deposit.

Now, we have seen a prospect house to move in to and the only thing left to deal with is with the old liar and greedy Land Lady. I told her she should not threaten us the way she did and the way I see how she tries to manipulate everything to her advantage but I simply made sure she gets my last message. “Please be reminded that we will not be bullied and we will be acting according to what is right.” We will see next…
